Drive with Confidence

Are you moving to Rwanda or visiting, and planning to ride a motorbike?

This course is for you. It covers all the main points of road safety when driving in Rwanda, and offers practical tips and experience to keep you upright.

What You Need

To participate, you will need:

  1. A current valid motorbike license from your country of origin. For the UK and Europe this is a Category A license, either restricted or unrestricted (depending on the size of bike you want to ride). In the US it is a motorcycle license.

  2. Valid travel insurance or health insurance that covers the use of a motorcycle.

  3. A motorbike. You can rent one of these from Kigali Motorbike Rental in Kicukiro. We recommend that you choose the type of bike that you are used to riding. You can also hire appropriate riding gear such as gloves, helmets, and jackets. All riders must wear a helmet to comply with the law.

  4. Before riding, you will be asked to sign a liability acceptance form which will be clearly explained to you, and to confirm that you are not under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication that might affect your ability to drive safely.

What the Day Involves

There is a half-day (roughly 4 hours) and full-day (roughly 6 hours + lunch) option.

Both options involve:

  • A briefing to explain the main safety aspects about riding in Rwanda and what to expect.

  • A warm-up ride to get used to the bike.

  • City riding: roundabouts, hills, ambiguous junctions, lane splitting and cobble streets.

  • Highway riding: multi-lane roads with a bit more speed.

  • Filling up the bike at a petrol station before returning it.

The full day also includes options for:

  • Out-of-town riding: heading a little way out of town on a winding road (useful if you're planning any road trips).

  • Off-roading: a little light off-roading on a murram/mud road.

We move at your pace and you can change the itinerary depending on how comfortable you feel. We cater to all riding abilities.

Pricing

The half-day ride is FRW 80,000 per person.

The full-day is RWF 130,000 per person.

Bottled water is included.

These prices do not include bike hire or refueling.
The full day does not include lunch, you should budget around 15-20k.
